Checking In with My Body
Today I sat down for a quick internal check-in, and started with a body check: noticing what was happening in my body. I felt some energy and mild tension in the back of my neck, head and back of head, gut, elbows, and knees, along with a bit of a frontal headache and some sinus pressure. I also noticed some self-consciousness about the sound of my voice as I began.
Navigating Polarizations and Daily Pressures
As I settled in, a polarization emerged around how I spend my time. I encountered a part that feels non-discriminating and willing to spend time with anyone, contrasted by my inner critic telling me I should be more discretionary and efficient with my time and who I spend it with. Soon after, I checked with my juggling part trying to handle multiple responsibilities, including my coaching practice, time tracking, and thoughts about my environment at the latest intentional community I am visiting (Twin Oaks). My inner critic chimed in again, urging me to get back to work so I would not feel stressed later in the week.
Welcoming All Parts
Toward the end of the session, I briefly scanned through a range of heavier feelings and younger exiles, including my disappointed, crushed, petrified, ashamed, and hurt parts. I also noticed my tough guy part, a social justice part, and a part that feels cautious about doing quick-IFS while I am blended with multiple concerns and seemingly low on self-energy. Ultimately, many of my parts agreed to wrap up quickly so I could head out and take care of practical needs, while a part of me criticized that I rushed through this session, many of my parts countered that even quick check-ins were welcomed, valued, and appreciated.
